Almost all innovation be it business, science or medicine comes from outside our narrow specialisation.

Fleming who discovered penicillin by accident and observation as did Jenner who discovered milkmaids who’d had cowpox did not catch deadly smallpox.

But as we get more and more specialised in our fields, we tend to stop looking outside our sphere for solutions.  Which is a huge mistake.

Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado is a medical researcher who understands this.  His fascination is with marine biology and what we can learn from species recently discovered.

Some of the “animals” he describes and their abilities are quite phenomenal.  It’s a talk really worth watching.
