Western countries throw out nearly half of their food, not because it’s inedible — but because it doesn’t look appealing.  Over the last 3 – 4 years there’s been a big push to stop some of this waste with supermarkets promoting “imperfect” fruit and vegetables.  But this is just scratching the surface.

This TED talk by Tristram Stuart was delivered in 2012.  The statistics are shocking, and probably haven’t changed all that much.
