Camels. I think they’re pretty ugly and they spit. But that aside they’re one of the most resilient creatures on the planet.
They survive in stinking hot deserts all the way to frigid mountain areas.
And they’re a great metaphor for leadership thinking in business.
My name is Rashid Kotwal.
Every business goes in cycles. There are ups and downs. Growth is rarely linear. And when things are cracking along, unexpected events, like Covid can derail you.
So as a leader you must develop a resilient mindset. To keep putting one foot in front of the other, no matter what.
But resilience is not enough.
You must have a vision of where you want to get to. Because as the Cheshire Cat said to Alice, if you don’t know where you want to get to, any road will take you there. And that’s not a useful strategy in business.
Next, formulate a strategy, determine short term milestones and have a scorecard to tell you you’re on track.
It’s not to say you can’t take advantages of opportunities, but beware the bright shiny object syndrome where you go off chasing stuff half cocked.
Knowing your purpose and having a strategic plan will keep you on the straight and narrow. You achieve strategic growth because you don’t spread yourself too thin.
Having said that, what are your plans for 2021? Now is the time to be formulating them so you hit the ground running in January next year.
While I’m sure you’re doing well, if you’d like our help to take an outside view of your strategy, ask critical questions so you really are confident you haven’t missed anything, give me a call regarding our Reboot, Revitalise and Thrive strategy sessions.
