Innovation often comes from the most unexpected places.

Bolivian doctor, Franz Freudenthal, looking at the composition of a green avocado branch wondered if the design could help plug congenital holes in the heart without complex, expensive, risky surgery.

Turns out it could.  But it doesn’t end there.

Studying the ancient weaving techniques used by women in the Andes, Franz went on to design a complex woven pattern with a smart material which records shape, doesn’t rust and can be put in via a catheter.

Reminds me of legendary marketer, Jay Abraham who espouses that most innovation comes from outside your industry and field of expertise.  Which is exactly why we should all have broad interests and keep an open mind.

“It won’t work here”, should be forever banished from your mindset!
