Prosthetic limbs have come a long way since Captain Hook’s er, hook.
Barbara and I vividly remember watching Paralympic runners at the Sydney 2000 games carrying different artificial legs around depending on what they needed to compete.
Technology has come a very long way since then. Hugh Herr, lost both legs in a climbing accident 30 years ago. Now, as the head of the MIT Media Lab’s Biomechatronics group, he demonstrates incredible technology which interfaces the prosthetic with the nervous system providing a completely new level of control and ability. It’s quite something.
