A client recently asked me how long it would take to get “beyond” their business. By which they meant when the business could run without their involvement and provide options.

To either stay involved doing the activities they loved.

Step out completely and have the business act as an investment vehicle providing solid returns.

Or be in a position to sell for a premium price, while being unencumbered by the new owners.

I said, “It all comes down to your mindset”.

Can and will you let go of control allowing others to take the reins? Which means not believing you’re the only person who can do what you do. I’m reminded of an old saying, “The graveyard is full of people who thought they were indispensable”.

Do you have the courage and commitment to doing what it takes to achieve this?

Obviously there’s a lot more to it than this, but unless you’re firmly committed to this course and your mindset reflects it, you’ll always be stuck running your business on a day to day basis.

And this is not to put a judgement on it. Just understand the choices you’re making.

So if you’re already running a successful operation and are looking to move beyond your business, but unsure of the steps to take, reach out. We’ll lay out a plan and help you progress down this path.
