Having worked with leaders over two decades, we have proven time and time again that mindset is the first and foremost determinant of business success.

One of the most important aspects of mindset is how you work with your clients.

I’m Rashid Kotwal.

When working with clients, I’ve coined a phrase, “You can either be a doorway or a doormat”.

Being a doorway means you provide a portal your clients walk through to get the outcomes they want.  You control access, managing the client in their best interest so they achieve their outcomes.

Alternatively, you become a doormat.  When your client says jump, you ask, how high.

And as a result your clients become more and more demanding, less and less appreciative and ultimately you lose all respect.  Then you just become another supplier they can walk over, pay late (or not at all), while you end up resenting them.

It’s a choice which all starts with your mindset.

As a business leader you must develop the courage and confidence to draw a line in the sand which you will not allow anyone to cross, no matter how lucrative the deal appears to be.

To have a firm unshakable belief that you provide real value and deserve to be respected by your clients.

To have the business posture to firmly state, this is what I will and will not accept and this is the way I want to be treated.

Now I know, when there’s a lot of money involved, it can be extremely tempting to just give in, but trust me, this is a slippery slope which will eventually lead to a lot of pain on your part.

So decide what your core values are and how you want to be treated.  Then before taking on a client, really probe to ensure your values and beliefs match and they’ll be a good fit.

If not, walk away.  You’ll thank your lucky stars later!

Now let me point out there’s a big difference between knowing what your mindset should be and embodying it into your neurology.

Which is why we spend significant time and effort with our clients developing their mindset of success, which includes helping them distil their value and what they bring to the table.

So if you feel your mindset isn’t supportive of your growth, reach out.  Our proven expertise and underlying system will enable you join the ranks of our successful clients who have the courage and confidence to put a stake in the ground and be the doorway, never the doormat.

Till next time, this is Rashid Kotwal.
