According to Hebrew proverbs, Where there is no vision, the people perish.  And as the Cheshire Cat said to Alice, if you don’t know where you want to get to, any road will take you there.

My name is Rashid Kotwal.

Huge tomes have been written about the importance of having a vision.  Setting a direction for your business and life.

But in my opinion, just having a vision without having the right mindset, strategy, goals, culture and commitment to achieving it is akin to having a pipe dream.

When working with growth oriented clients, we always start with our unique VMS model which incorporates all these.  The VMS model applies whether you’re a one man band or have a team.

The model itself is fractal.  In other words it scales down to every level of your business.

Here’s how.

You can apply the VMS model to your entire organisation.  Determine your overall direction, strategy, goals and milestones.  What organisational culture you aspire to and the mindset and commitment to a shared path everyone needs to buy into.

And I’d certainly suggest you do this at least once per year so you’re all singing from the same page in the same hymn book.

So how is this fractal?  Well, the VMS model scales down into every project you undertake.

Every project involving a team be it delivery, marketing or selling needs an overall vision and direction.  Why you’re going down this path and what you expect to achieve.

Then the attendant mindset, team culture, level of commitment, strategy and goals.

Because unless everyone’s aligned, you risk failure.  And often, all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the barrel.

And that can happen insidiously and covertly.

So it’s far better to start as you mean to go on.  Take the time to run through the VMS.

You’ll thank yourself later.

And remember, this model applies to you as an individual leader as much as your team.  It’s infinitely scalable.

Now having said all that, often it’s better to have an external expert facilitator help you implement this.  So if you’d like help doing so, reach out.  We created the model and we’re very good at helping people implement it.  Even if we say so ourselves.  We can run this with just you, a specific team, project or your whole organisation.

Till next time, this is Rashid Kotwal.
